Rotarian Charles Adams received more honors from Rotary International at the August 30th meeting of the Rotary Club of Glens Falls.   He was awarded both a Major Donor citation and membership in the Bequest Society by The Rotary Foundation.

 The Major Donor citation acknowledges a contribution of $10,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation.  Membership in the Bequest Society acknowledges his bequeathed gift of $US 10,000 or more.

      As a former Glens Falls businessman, Mr. Adams has contributed both money and time to the cause of water quality issues in Third-World nations.   With Pure Water for the World, Inc., and his own foundation, The Taeria Foundation, Inc., he has worked with many organizations in Haiti to share and allocate resources in humanitarian projects.   These resources are needed to bring clean, potable water to impoverished areas of that country.  Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere.

 Adams was recently awarded a "Service Above Self" award by the Board of Directors of Rotary International for his exemplary work.  This is the highest award made to individual Rotarians.  Only 140 of the awards were made, worldwide, in 2006.

Adams’s work caught wide attention in July, 2006, when he was kidnapped and taken to Cite Soleil, a notorious slum in Port-au-Prince.   Later released, a little poorer but otherwise unharmed, he stayed to continue working on clean water projects.  He has returned several times since then.

In June, Adams married Alexandra Martinez, the District Secretary of Rotary in the Dominican Republic.  Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic.  Adams moved to Santiago, DR, in August; and now splits his time between the Caribbean and New York.
